Stories shape us - sharing reflections and practices to help you compassionately discover where the sacred is already alive in you.

Reflections:

Creativity is a quiet companion in both Narratice Coaching and Spiritual Direction. When people share their stories, there is often a tendencey to either pretend painful chapters did not happen or become paralyzed by them. Over time, these patterns can leave a person feeling trapped or stuck. Creativity, in the form of imagination, helps us begin to relate to our stories differently. It invites us to get outside of what is and consider wat could be.

We like to think of this as sacred play. Play is unhurried, non-productive, and free from the pressure to get it right. When we make room for play, we step out of problem-solving and into presence, where insight can surface in its own time. It allows us to ask, “What if…?” without needing to have it all figured out.

When resistance or a feeling of being stuck arises, we treat it as an invitation. We might ask, “What would life look like, or how might you feel, if this barrier were no longer here?”

Creativity invites us to stay with our story long enough for it to speak back in a way that brings greater freedom.

How can you be creative with your story?

Practice:

Here are a couple creative practices to explore your feelings and emotional state.

1) Journaling is a practice of writing down your feelings and thoughts, often helping a person identify patterns or situations in their life.

 A simple prompt could be:

What is going on with me- emotionally, physically, spiritually?

So What am I feeling about my emotional, physical spiritual state?

Now What action do I want to take?

2) Or creating a Collage:

While you are pondering on how you are doing emotionally, physically, spiritually, take various pictures, words, or other materials to use as representations of your thoughts and feelings - or how you would like to be feeling.

Now arrange these materials onto a surface of your choice (large poster paper, board, or box) representing your current state or an imagined state. This practice can be very creative and only needs to make sense to you.
